Karl and Marlise Johnson were married at their home in LaGrange, Texas on Dec. 22nd, 2005. (Got to love that tax break!). We gathered as family and friends to celebrate their union on Feb. 18th, 2006 at Lutherhill, a beautiful church retreat close to their home. Despite the cold weather, in the 30s with freezing rain, we all had a wonderful time. Grandparents, parents, friends, Joel and Aimee of Tangled Blue, it was wonderful to meet all of you!

I've traveled all over the world to photograph friends' weddings. It started out as a hobby but through word of mouth advertising, I'm currently available for hire (Laramie, Cheyenne, and Fort Collins). "Wide Open Wyoming" was my first solo show in Wyoming. I mounted the following photographs at Trinity Coffee House in Laramie, Wyoming, Feb. 2005.

Artist’s Statement

I kind of fell into photography; as Scarlet Johansson’s character says in Lost in Translation, “I guess every girl goes through a photography phase.” My photography phase started in 1997 on a whim. I decided to minor in photography my sophomore year of college. Soon afterwards, I started to travel, taking pictures and capturing the world around me. My dad was in the military for twenty-years so naturally, I was born with the travel bug. Egypt, Italy, and Great Britain have been some of the highlights. Traveling opened my eyes to new things and I am appreciative for all that I have seen and experienced. After graduating with a master’s in Public History from the State University of West Georgia, I moved to Laramie, Wyoming in July of 2004. The drastic change in landscape, from Georgia to Wyoming, gave me a fresh outlook. Colors were more vibrant, the sky was bigger, and the landscape enormous and vast. I took over 4,000 pictures during my first year in Wyoming (talk about being inspired)! The few you see here are some of my favorites.

In the past I worked solely in black and white, but the wide open skies of Wyoming are better captured in color. Wyoming in general lends itself to color and BIG prints! Most of the photographs on display were taken in Laramie; a few were captured at historical sites throughout Wyoming. All were taken with my digital Rebel.
